I have to be honest with you. Up to about a few hours ago, I was feeling rather lost. I thought it was because of the challenge to get back into the swing of things after recently returning back from a fabulous vacation. Upon reflection however I discovered what was really the case: I missed pushing myself to create recipes for the challenge I did this summer. You may recall that it was to eat local for 100 days. Since I chose to photograph practically everything I ate, it kept me honest; it kept me on my toes to source out local; I loved to create. It also validated a lot of reasons I choose to do what I do in both my personal and professional life. So what to do? I know... continue!
It was so wonderful to use some of the last few leaves of parsley and apple mint from the garden in my morning smoothie today. Among other goodies, I also added royal jelly (it's said to be an immune and brain booster among other benefits) in raw honey that I purchased directly from a bee keeper when on holidays, and a breakfast grains compilation from an local area gal. You’ll see the smoothie recipe down below.
My biggest reason to post is to encourage you to give yourself permission to revisit past victories, pleasing moments, or celebrations and see how you can daily (yes!) incorporate them as a somewhat permanent thing.... until you find the need to change things up or officially write THE END of the experience.
I found the reason why I loved doing what I did for those days. It meshed my love of incorporating local food, and being creative in the kitchen. It changed me forever. So I can’t stop now. I have just begun!
What have you lost that can be found again?
- 2 cups almond milk
- 3 tbsp hemp hearts
- 2 tbsp ground flax seed
- ½ cup raw oats (I used Omega Grains that includes oats, and other grains)
- ½ tsp raw honey (I used a blend with royal jelly)
- 1 small handful fresh parsley (if you don't have, just use greens of any kind)
- 1 to 2 tbsp fresh mint (I used apple mint. If you don't have fresh, you can omit)
- 1 (to 2 small) local apple (organic)
- 1 large piece of celery (organic)
- Blend thoroughly.
